THE EMBLEMATIC FIGURE

The story of Le Crocodile began at the beginning of the 19th century (1801). The church had put the property up for sale and it was rumoured that it had once housed a convent. One of Napoleon's soldiers, Captain Ackermann, who had just returned from the Egyptian campaign, bought it. Among the treasures he brought back from the Nile was a stuffed crocodile.


1840
Mr Ackermann sells to Mr Bentz, who turns the place into a restaurant.
1874
The building is extended and a glass roof is installed.
1958
1st star in the Michelin Guide by Mr Ernest Schenck for the restaurant Au Crocodile
1969
Loss of the star by the Hollaender brothers, who had owned the restaurant for 2 years.
1971
Monique and Emile Jung take over Le Crocodile.
1972
LFirst star in the Michelin Guide
1975
Second star awarded for work carried out over the previous 4 years
1989
A revolutionary event in the history of Alsace: the restaurant is awarded its third star.
2009
Emile Jung sells his Crocodile, which now has 2 Michelin stars, to Mr Bohrer.
February 2015
Cédric Moulot, an Alsatian restaurateur, buys the restaurant and plans a new future for the Crocodile.
March 2015
The first star in the Michelin Guide.
2016
Return of the star in the Michelin Guide and 15.5/20, 3 toques in Gault&Millau.
2017
Becomes a member of Relais et Châteaux
2019
Mr Moulot and Salpa Restauration work together to completely renovate the restaurant Au Crocodile and start again with a brand new team.
Opening of Le Crocodile on 23 January 2020
